Time

I can’t believe it has been a month since I have posted last and 5 weeks since our little Josai was born. Time has a very bad habit of flying by, slipping through these fingers of mine. I am still learning to savor each moment I am blessed with in this earthly journey for one day it will vanish. It is a vapor in light of eternity.

As you can imagine life has been blessedly busy around here, lot’s of adjustments to lots of changes. One week before our little blessing was born my beloved quit his job in a conviction to be more faithful in his calling as husband, father and house church pastor. That has been a huge change in our home, a huge blessed change in many ways but still a change that has to be adapted to. Our little “handsome” as I call him arrived destroying all of our normality as a family of 5 for 3 years, we are now adjusting to being a family of 6 and I am head deep in school preperations for up in coming homeschool year… just 2 weeks away. Life is awesome and my heart is so full of peace amidst the chaos of change around me.

The photo above is of Josai’s favorite sleeping spot during the day with his new sleeping buddy “Spicey Girl”…  right in the middle of all of the action. I can’t believe he hasn’t been jumped on yet! We have had many close calls though 😉

Well, I am in the middle of a short window of time where all of my kids are resting… I am off to make the best use of my time! Just wanted to make a little update.

Well we had an exhaustive, difficult, blessed, amazing, eventful and holy week! Holy in the sense that it was “set apart” to reflect on the resurrection of Christ through much time spent in the word, in pray and in daily devotions and activities that draw us closer to His love and to eachother. It was a very difficult week with adjusting to Expresso’s new outside of the home job… some days barely getting to connect for more than 30 minutes at the most (that is really hard), early nights, exhausted nights, new routines and less time to spend as a family. I feel the pressure to be more productive at home although I don’t necessarily feel the desire to be more  productive. I am praying over this week, that the Lord will be gracious to us and enable us to keep our eyes, our minds and our hearts on Christ and to be more intentional and less selfish with our time so that we may fulfill each little facet of attention that we can in each day. The kids also had a rough time adjusting to their daddy being gone all day and then not being able to spend the amount of time that he has been able to in the past, evenings seem to be the hardest. Where he as once able to spend 15-30 minutes reading to them each night now is only an occassional thing depending on the evening and events and where he as leading morning worship each morning is now taken over by me.  Eli has been getting up in the mornings just to catch some time with his daddy, it is sweet. He spends the early morning with him and then, if I get up to, we go back to bed together for a little bit, but I am not sure how this week will go since we are back in school.

We all praise God for this new change and we continue with more zeal than last week to embrace it and seek to glorify Him in the midst of it. On another note we had the special blessing of experiences the birth of some of our closest friends precious baby girl! It was amazing and the Lord taught me so much through it all that I hope to share later. My friend went natural which is something that I am praying for the strength to do when my turn comes to labor.

This week I am really hoping that I can get a lol done each day and with a joyful and peaceful attitude among the trials and stressful moments with in. I am needing to figure out how to implement certain things into our days and how to take over in my own way our family worship times and history lessons that are usually a daddy thing. I have some ideas. I also feel the strong urgent need to begin a more living faith with in our home, such as what we did this week with Holy week. Each day was soaked in a kind of living faith that could not be missed nor ignored but rather radiant and thoroughly enjoyed and longed for. I am praying for direction in that area.

Just seeking to make the most of this life, this time for His glory and His glory alone and in that reality I find unmistakedly JOY.

How is it even possible that this beautiful little creature of mine turned 3 today… I can hardly grasp on quickly the time has gone from anticipating her coming to her blessed arrival and now her 3rd year with us. She is such a sweet and beautiful little girl, I just love being around her everyday! Each morning I am so blessed to be greeted by her smiling little face and precious joyous spirit, yes she is “gasp” a morning person… and I am learning from her to be more of one to ;).

Today was her special day… and we had a blast!

It is so humbleling to realize how fast time goes… and how quickly we allow the moments to slip through our fingers into the past never to be experienced again… I long for each day to be a lovely path to remember not a dark valley.  The Lord has been very good to us the last 2 weeks, guiding us and providing for us in energy and in love.  Superman really enjoyed our file crate work box system as well as T-Rex…. Butterfly saw there excitement each day and wondered where her fun crate filled with things to do was… working on that this weekend :).

This week Superman enjoyed another week of history with daddy, yay! We also had fun, we enjoyed our grammar poetry appreciation with Rober Frost…

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, what a joy it has been to bath in this poem for a week… being blessed by it’s presence everywhere, so lovely.

He finished all of his delighted learning for the week and enjoyed each of his file folders, he exclaimed to me on Tuesday that he really liked the file folders I made, they were so much fun. Yay!! 10 points for mom ;).

Want to see them? If you are like me… I know you do!! I love seeing what works for other homeschool moms.

Right now I have Superman and T-Rex’s file crates on the floor (for lack of a better place) along with their done box. When they finish something from their crate they put it in the done box where I go through it later and either dispose or file.

Here is Superman’s crate… right now we only do 10 file folders, that is plenty for us. I throw in some fun activities as well to keep him motivated moving from folder to folder :). For instance I put in a Take 10 card, a Computer Game card or a Outside Play card and I also always put in a bag of snack at some point. In the back I have a little box with all his supplies in it, notebooks for his subject notebooking (a new thing for us) and his clipboard (not shown) for copywork. Every he need is in there. Here is a close up of what I put in the folders for one day…

This weekend I am going to be making laminated cards to stick in the file folders for things that either can’t fit or is not something that can go in the folder such as a Nature Walk. I don’t know if I am going to make the cards that they hold to velcroe the cards of the things they have done like the original workboxes, they may like that more.

T-Rex and Butterfly had a blast in their 2nd week of the letter A and they both have successfully learned it’s sound and are able to recognize it… yay! Here are some pictures of them enjoying themselves…

Next week we journey through the letter B and number 2, explore birds, enjoy poetry with Robert Louis Stevenson and cocoa, listen to the story of Tchaikovshy and admire Audubons work.

Our first week of school was inspiring and a fun filled experience… I am excited about a new week ahead of us.  We were orignally going to have school today, but after such a long day yesterday decided to call if off.  This last week went very smooth,  I really enjoyed teaching my little ones as well this year.

They had so much fun learning and playing. T-Rex continues to be a challenge in any formal learning but that is okay… taking it slow.

We went on a little expedition in our backyard, chased butterfly’s, examined the dark hole in the old stump (what could be in there?), saw mushrooms (of course), listened for birds, marveled at the ugly beauty of neon colored spiders and a vine wrapped around a tree.

What a blessed week we had! I am now working on making a few tweeking changes because there is always room for improvement. I feel like these things called workboxes would be a great addition to our daily adventures… I don’t have the money to invest in he workboxes themselves but found another idea that I can do for now… so this week hopefully we will be doing this.

This morning I sit in a quiet house, the door is open and the cool crisp air is filling in… Autumn is near. I rejoice over his day knowing that great things are coming, precious moments of encouraging little ones in love, of leading them gently to His grace and of enjoying this day together… not thinking about the past for it is forgiven nor the future for it is in His hands… just today.

Departing summer hath assumed
An aspect tenderly illumed,
The gentlest look of spring;
That calls from yonder leafy shade
Unfaded, yet prepared to fade,
A timely carolling.
– William Wordsworth, September
